Bicyclists travel around Rockford in 12 hour bike tour

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — River District 12 hosts their 2nd annual bike tour, which is a 12 hour bike ride to promote bike safety and awareness and provide a bike view of the river district.

55 bicyclists make their way around Rockford today in teams or solo on a 4.5 mile course that starts at North Main St. The course has eight bonus check points designed for different activities to add fun and allow the bicyclists to pace themselves throughout the day.

“When you’re riding at bike-speed you see so much of your city. I want to encourage people to love your city. Be in it. Do things when you ride your bike. It’s a completely different time-space thing,” said River District 12 organizer Tami Bogard.

River District 12 is already looking forward to next year’s event and hopes more people will sign up to be a part of this unique experience.
